"Twenty years blurred my memory of what she looked like, but having her next to me, I remembered her perfume. She smelled like a fresh bouquet. Strawberries mixed with sugar cookie. Vanilla, but stronger, as though innocence had a scent. I closed my eyes and breathed in, deep enough to feel the ribs in my chest. My heart beat faster. Cassadee smelled like young love, a first kiss, something wonderful."

Making the wealthy elite feel special through exclusivity has made him an amazing success. We’re not for everybody.”
“You mean TIC turns down business?” That also seemed counterintuitive to building a business.
“Yes, a full third of prospective are turned down.”
“Businesses want to make money. How is that more profitable?”
Blaine gave the look of an adult dealing with a small child. “People want what they can’t have. Our coatings are exclusive. TIC is not for the masses. Think of it as you would a rope line.”
I smirked. “That’s an interesting analogy, Blaine.”
“Listen, there’s a story that will help explain the way things work. It’s part of our corporate folklore. It’s about a small powder room, part of the former estate of Lucille Ball. Tommy felt the job was beneath him and called the owner personally to turn it down. As luck would have it, the woman was extremely wealthy and refused to take no for an answer. She offered three times the normal rate. It was a turning point for the company and has become our corporate strategy.”
I raised an eyebrow. “That’s fascinating, so what’s Tommy’s story?”
Blaine’s face went blank and he began speaking by rote, “Our founder creates each color pallet grinding the pigments by hand, using an antique granite ball and trough. An apparatus recovered from the first American Paint Mill circa 1700. All the formulations are Tommy’s original creations.”
“Is any of that true?” I wondered.
Blaine rolled his eyes. “Tommy’s assistants select the tints. All the shades are mixed secretly on-site.”
The lights dimmed. Tommy’s name splashed across an IMAX-sized screen, each letter shining in a different color. Two giant signs, one on each side of the stage flashed - Applause. The attendees began a standing, arms outstretched ovation, hands clapping in a common energetic beat. The founder, a slight middle-aged man took center stage. His jet-black hair and pale complexion juxtaposed against a black tee and stylish designer scarf. He posed demanding attention.
Blaine spoke into my ear, “That’s Tommy.”
At that moment, my dream ended.
I looked at Gabby. “That’s when I woke up.”
Gabby nodded. “You dreamed of ego.”
“Huh?”
“Specialness, Bo.”

Review: ALL IN: Race for the White House

Political intrigue, suspense, and romance.
By TwoFromTx
Format: Kindle Edition
I rarely read political novels, but kept hearing buzz about Jack Canon's American Destiny. Author Greg Sandora has a great writing style and his storyline pulls you in on page one whether you are politically inclined or not.

I’m familiar with a local politician who worked his way up to Senate position, and what Sandora writes seems more factual than fiction. Entertaining, educational, and enticing! The world of politics is indeed an ugly playground, and you have to play rough and get dirty to make it into the big leagues.

All characters are well drawn, especially Canon whose flawed yet powerful personality is persuasive enough to entice voters and keep readers turning pages. Jack Canon is truly All In, so if you want to take a thrilling, suspenseful ride along with a variety of characters, jump in.

Initially I was thrown by a grammatical error in which Jack reads his notes to his provocative, fetching assistant, Sandy, and uses the phrase could care less instead of couldn't care less (“this country is being run by elitist who could care less about ordinary Americans”), but in the following line, he correctly uses “couldn't” in a sentence. It momentarily stopped me, but as I continued reading I realized Greg Sandora’s writing is up there with the best of the best.

Buy this one - you won't regret it!

"Bud, we've got tons of backing, I understand the GOP, but do you really think it's necessary to get involved funding the Tea Party?"
"I think so, Jack, the electorate is fickle. The sooner we find two or three guys to build up the better. The GOP will never realize we're doing it if we start now. A few choice assignments, some feigned interest from our friends, a little money, and voila! Before you know it, we'll have a couple of egomaniacs ready to run."
"But what if your plan backfires and you create a monster, someone we can't beat?"
"That's the beauty of this; we get to choose the guys! All with a fatal flaw, one we can expose after the nomination. Never forget the fear in politics, Jack. Wait until a week or so before the election, create a little doubt, and sail into a second term."
"Bud, do you think you can find a couple of guys in the GOP with a flaw significant enough to bring them down, who would still be willing to run?" Bud reached for his cell phone, held it out far enough to see it, squinting without his cheaters, and tapped a few keys. Chuckling, "In this town, with all the fucking egos? We'll have to sift through the worst of the bunch to find one who could actually make it to the nomination! Otherwise, they're of no use to us. You've got to be kidding, right?"
"Okay, put together some names, but hold off on taking any action, at least until we get a chance to talk some more. And, Bud?"
"Yeah?"
"Don't mention this to anyone. If we go through with this, no one could ever know."
"Sure, if it's what you want. But, trust me on this, if it's a squeaker, you're going to want this weapon in your pocket."
"I suppose you're right. It's crucial we have two terms to get everything done."
"I'm telling you to stack the deck in our favor. The sooner we get started the better, and another thing. I want to continue our conversation about promoting the Tea Party. I'm telling you… it'll fragment the GOP and put the Republicans perennially, three points behind. We can test the theory in the midterms. "
Bud started with his Tea Party idea the day after the election. He realized the Tea Party was cancer that could, if promoted, eat the Republican Party from within. He was sure the GOP couldn’t control the radical ultra-conservatism. Eating at the fringe, it would spell disaster for them. A gift dropped in our lap should be exploited, he said. Bud was sure it would be the Republican's undoing. Like a mad political genius, he was looking to promote their cause. He wanted to test his theory with the midterms, not wanting to risk the Presidency. He reasoned two years out, a lifetime in Washington Politics, he'd be able to make adjustments.
Daphne popped into the room carrying one of Bud's nine-ounce monogrammed tumblers, half-filled with crushed ice.
"You rang, Sire?" She said, referring to Bud's text. Making her way to him, she first placed a coaster, then a can of Coke on the mahogany side table.
"Daphne, how many does that make today?" I asked.
"This is his third," she smirked, turning in my direction so Bud couldn't see her face. He quickly shifted his weight so as not to miss a second of her. Daphne walked around the desk and leaned over next to me. Whispering, grazing her sultry trademark pink gloss lips to my ear, "Would you like anything?"

Political Fiction catches on the Raw Nerve of Wealth vs. Poverty in America. What are we going to do about it?

“Tip, anything you need to say can be said in front of Sandy.”
“He’s right, Tip,” Sandy said, “Jack could pull his gun from the wall safe and blow your brains out right in front of me. I’d stuff your dead corpse in a sack and clean up the mess. He’s my life and I’m alone in this world without him.”
Tip said, “I like that about you. But really, what I’m going to say is sensitive.”

Whoosh! Smack! Each hurl of the ball ripped through the air like the sound of faraway firecrackers, cracking in the wind. There was no mistaking five ounces of high-velocity leather snapping into a catcher’s mitt.
“What’s the speed on that last one?” Nicky asked, removing his cap.
“97!” the assistant called back as he looked again at the number on the speed gun.
“Damn! That’s fast!” Nicky scratched his head. He spat a wad of tobacco on the ground and then slipped a tin of chew from his training jacket. He placed another pinch inside his cheek. “Play some college ball, Son?”
“No, Sir,” I replied, shaking my head. “I did play in high school, though...”
“Pitcher?” he quizzed.
“Nope,” I gestured, thumb down, digging my foot into the bright red clay behind the rubber.
“That’s hard to believe. Who could have missed you...and a Lefty too?” He continued muttering. “Impossible, I would have dragged you...”
Nicky was still shaking his head when my throw interrupted him mid-sentence. Whack! The echo signaled that it was fast.
“That was 99!” the assistant called out.
“Bo Garrett, right?” Nicky asked, checking his clipboard. “You’re a local kid?”
“Yeah,” I nodded. “Portland, ninety miles up the road.”
“I love Maine,” he said. “The seafood, the microbrews; you know we’ve got Double-A?”
I nodded. “Sure do, the Sea Dogs, Mr. Cantor.”
“Kid, my dad was Mr. Cantor, call me Nicky. None of our scouts ever took a look at you?”
I shook my head. “They came by, watched our games, but I didn’t play much. I guess I was easy to miss, Nicky.” It was tough calling the great pitching coach by his first name.
“Well, you’re high and outside,” he hedged. “Unorthodox style.”
“I’ll take anything as a compliment,” I thought as I stepped back to the mound.
Nicky squinted. “Do you think you could settle down? I’d like to see you pitch to a live hitter.”
“You’ve got plenty of raw speed,” he reeled off. “No mechanics, but plenty of speed.” He scratched his thoughts onto the paper clamped on his clipboard.
“Alright,” I agreed.
Nicky motioned to a batter who was warming up near the dugout. The catcher ripped off his mask and ran up to me.
“You don’t have to rush. Take your time,” he said.
“He wants me to pitch to that?” I motioned to the big man in the circle. He was swinging the bat as though he wanted to kill something with it.
“It’s Bo, right?”
I nodded. “Yeah, you’re Billy Gaines. I feel like I know you.”
He chuckled. “Yeah, television - ain’t it something?”
“Yeah, I guess,” I answered

Angel on Eternity: From Gabby, Angel of God Series

“Try to imagine a thought. Something you’re dreaming, maybe. Thoughts are real to you, right?”
“Very real, Gabby.”
“But, they have no form, right?”
“I guess that’s true. What are they then?” I asked.
“Thoughts are your creations. They have no physical matter, but still they exist in your mind. Listen carefully, the thoughts of God become matter, the non-form becomes form. Moreover, man forgets his creations, God’s are never forgotten. The thoughts of the Father are eternal.”
“So once my Father has thought of me, I’m forever?”
“Yes, isn’t it wonderful? God will never forsake you. You are his child, therefore precious, and for all eternity.”
